Is This Your Vision Of Downtown Montgomery?
Whose vision is this for downtown Montgomery?
I think this planning vision of the future of Montgomery is a pretty good example of why the April 5th, 2011 election was important. Personally, I think the plan is a disgrace. I don't care who did it or how much it cost.
Notice the Montgomery Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 7452) building is omitted from this plan and somehow transformed into a parking lot? Page 9-4 of the plan says the proposed parking lot where the VFW building now stands "opens up views to the river from Village Hall." I can only imagine how welcome that must make the vets feel in Montgomery. Also gone are virtually all the homes and businesses that we know today. One resident said to me, on viewing this plan, "This looks like a military barracks. It's creepy, everything is like Stalag 13."
Maybe you like the plan, that's certainly your decision to make. If you don't like it, let me say this. The plan was conceived, voted on and approved by some of the people who walked the streets this past election asking for your vote. Same with the Mill District downtown plan. Do you share their vision? Is our planning money well spent? I'd like to hear your views and I'd be happy to show you this entire document over a cup of coffee at George's Family Restaurant - which I also don't see in this "Long-Term Vision for Downtown Montgomery."
