It Is Time for Montgomery To Have Covered Carts
Many of our neighboring communities have covered wheel carts like this for curbside collection. It's time for Montgomery residents to have this convenience, too.
I believe much of the litter we pick up out of our lawns, streets, water basins and roadways is the result of not having trash containers like the ones pictured here. I don't think people throw Jewel bags out of their car window, or empty cereal boxes or newspapers. We're creating our own litter problem by not having the best systems in place to make garbage day convenient, efficient and litter-free.
Montgomery's garbage collection contract will come before the next Village Board for negotiation and approval. Since our history has been to award 5 year collection agreements, and since we're now a pretty substantial trash collection customer, I think it is time to insist on covered, wheeled containers that are more convenient for families to use, that won't tip over and spill trash into the neighborhoods and that hold the volume growing young families need.
I promise to work for a better trash collection agreement for the residents of Montgomery, and that includes better containers, better programs for seniors, better customer service, and more "special" collection days.
