36 Volunteers for Litter Pickup at Foxmoor Lake
Foxmoor | Fairfield Way Earth Day Litter Pickup Collects 27 bags.
Thirty six volunteers collected 27 bags of litter from the shoreline and water's edge of Cambridge Foxmoor Lake in Montgomery last Saturday, April 18. The event was organized to help celebrate Earth Day and to increase public awareness about the problem of litter.Joining Foxmoor residents were cub scouts and scout leaders from Pack 347 who assisted in the litter pickup as part of their scouting community service activity. Christian and public school students also participated as part of their community service programs.
Following the litter pickup, a hot dog roast and social hour was hosted by Joe and Pat Marschall, residents of Cambridge Foxmoor.
According to event organizer, Stan Bond, "The efforts of these great volunteers helped protect a community watershed and was a great benefit to the wildlife and prairie wildflower environment."
"27 bags of trash is a lot of litter to pull from a 9 acre lake, and it reflects a problem the Village of Montgomery needs to address." Bond added. "I think part of this litter is coming from ineffective garbage containers. We need covered cart containers that stay upright and sealed to keep litter in its place."
"What we can be proud of," Bond continued, "is that Montgomery and Oswego are blessed with youngsters and adult volunteers who are willing to devote their time and energy to the service of our community and the environment."
Bond says this is the fourth annual spring litter pickup at Foxmoor Lake and the number of volunteers has steadily grown. A fall pickup effort and other neighborhood events are also being planned.
